Trend Alert: High-Low Skirts/Dresses

It is without a doubt that the high-low hemline is IN for this summer. It’s everywhere! Have you ever had a hard time deciding between wearing a mini skirt or a maxi skirt or between a mid-length dress or a maxi dress? Well, high-low skirts and dresses serve as a great compromise. Think of it as having the best of both worlds! The unique hemline adds a flirtatious feel to these clothing items, allowing for you to show off your legs in a new, eye-catching way. Paired with a nice pair of heels, your outfit can instantly be transformed into one suitable for a dressy occasion – maybe a first date? OR wear your high-low skirt or dress with a good pair of sandals or wedges for a more casual feel. Below are two ideas for styling both a high-low skirt and dress:

Nail of the Day!

After a hectic and stressful week at work, I decided to give myself a little spa treatment today and paint my nails! Here is the finished product:

On my nails: China Glaze’s “Peachy Keen”

I absolutely love coral for summer, because it’s so bright and fun and adds a little something extra to anything you’re wearing. It also goes well with pretty much any color! (I actually love coral any time of the year. It’s one of my all-time favorite colors). So what are your go-to polishes for the summertime? Let me know in comments below!

My Top 5ish Wardrobe Essentials

It’s 8:45 am and I ‘m trying to figure out what to wear. I’m going to miss the bus if I don’t make a decision within the next 2 seconds. Sounds familiar right? This is where my wardrobe essentials come in handy, because I don’t have to think twice about my outfit. I just put it on and go. These must-have pieces will get you out of jam whenever you’re in a hurry whether it is for school work or even a date. Everyone has a different style, so you can always adjust this list to what you like to wear and your own personal style! Alright, here we go:

White Button-Up Shirt

First up is a white button-up shirt. It is a must have, wardrobe essential mostly because of its versatility. You can wear it to class/in the daytime with jeans or a skirt and a statement necklace for an added pop of color, at work with neutral, tailored pants, or at night with an edgy skirt and bold jewelry. Make sure the shirt has a little bit of a stretch and flatters your body type and you’ll be good to go!

Cardigan

If I could choose one item in my closet that I absolutely must have at ALL times, it would definitely be a cardigan. Cardigans are staple pieces for me because they complete outfits and are easy to layer over tank tops, t-shirts, blouses, and dresses. I like to have cardigans in all colors and prints for variety but starting off with neutral-colored cardigans in your wardrobe is to me, essential.

Black Closed-Toed Pumps and/or Flats

This is where the 5ish part of my list comes from. I couldn’t decide on what kind of shoes to include – heels or flats – so I’m listing them both. A black pair of each. These shoes will go well with virtually anything in your closet, especially the black ones since they are classic and will never go out of style. I would suggest investing on both of these shoes. That way, they will last you for a very long time.

A Little *Insert Color Here* Dress

Every girl should have that one go-to dress that they like to wear no matter what time of day or year. A dress in any solid color that you can dress up or dress down is a good piece to own. By day, you can pair it with flats, sandals, or wedges and simple jewelry. Add a scarf for a little something extra and voilà, you’re out the door!

Pair of Jeans

A pair of jeans is a clothing item that everyone should own. They can be worn casually with a simple shirt and flats or dressed up with flowy tops and heels. Outfit options with jeans are endless. The key to finding a good pair of jeans is to try them on to make sure they fit you well. Basically, find a pair that fit your body type!

Quick How To: Curl Your Eyelashes

Curling your eyelashes is an easy technique that you can use before applying your mascara to make your eyes appear more awake and to give your eyes or makeup look a flirty touch. This technique also enhances and thickens your eyelashes without the difficulties of applying false lashes. It may seem like an intimidating task at first, but after some practice, you will be able to upgrade your eye look in no time.

Things you’ll need:

  • An eyelash curler
  • A spooly brush (optional)

Instructions

  1. Sit up straight and look straight ahead. This will help you to place the eyelash curler correctly on the lashes.
  2. Open up your eyelash curler and position it at the base of your lashes.
  3. Gently clamp the eyelash curler down for 3 seconds.
  4. Open the curler and move it up to the middle of your lashes.
  5. Gently clamp the eyelash curler down for 3 seconds.
  6. Open the curler and move it up towards to the tip of your lashes.
  7. Gently clamp the eyelash curler down for another 3 seconds.
  8. Repeat steps 1-7 on the other eye.
  9. If you want to make your lashes appear even thicker, take a spooly brush and comb through the lashes, starting at the base and working your way up to the tips of the lashes.

Warnings:

  • Be careful to not clamp the eyelash curler down on the skin of your eyelid.
  • Try not to blink too hard while the curler is clamped onto your lashes.

Trend Alert: Fair Isle Sweaters

It’s that time of year again when it starts getting cold enough to numb your nose and toes. So it is of no surprise that you see everyone sporting their favorite sweaters, particularly fair aisle sweaters! I’m sure you’ve seen them too. You know, the ones with the unique patterns that are reminiscent of what people refer to as “tacky sweaters” but with a more fashionable twist.

Fair Isle actually refers to a type of knitting technique that uses multiple colors and patterns. The name stems from an island located north of Scotland. These sweaters became popular after the Prince of Wales – or Edward VIII – wore a Fair Isle tank top out in public in 1921. Talk about starting a trend!

There are many ways to wear this type of sweater. You could keep it simple and pair it with jeans and riding boots. If long enough, you could wear it underneath leggings, jeggings, or tights along with a cute pair of flats or oxfords. Also, don’t neglect your accessories! I love wearing long necklaces and some arm candy with sweaters to take my outfit to the next level.

Want to indulge in the trend? Check out a few of the fair aisle sweaters I have found below:
